VPL Laser Hair Removal

What is Epilation?

The VPL laser hair removal procedure involves the complete destruction of the hair structure – including the shaft, root, and follicle (hair follicle). Removing the deeper structures of the hair results in its elimination and inhibits its regrowth, ensuring a long-lasting hair removal effect.

Anesthesia local, cooling gel
Duration approx. 30 minutes
Treatment plan 3-4 treatments required at 6-8 week intervals for long-lasting results
Results permanent, hair does not regrow for several years
Preparation for the procedure skin must not be tanned, discontinue supplements based on photosensitizing herbs (such as St. John’s wort, horsetail, chamomile, calendula), creams with vitamins A, C, and retinoids
Procedure for pregnant patients not allowed

How does the VPL laser work?

The VPL laser uses the phenomenon of photothermolysis – the dark pigment in the hair absorbs high doses of light energy, which is then converted into heat energy. Selected layers of skin tissue heat up, causing water to evaporate, leading to the drying out of the tissues. In this way, the damaged hair follicle dies, resulting in permanent laser hair removal.

Benefits of VPL Laser Epilation

The VPL (Variable Pulsed Light) technology laser, unlike IPL (Intense Pulsed Light), is characterized by a broader spectrum of light wavelengths. IPL devices require untanned skin and dark hair to work effectively. By increasing the range of wavelengths in the light beam, as is the case with VPL lasers, we achieve greater flexibility and fewer contraindications for the epilation procedure.

An important advantage of VPL laser hair removal is the parallel skin rejuvenation effect, achieved through the activation of skin cells responsible for collagen production and other connective tissue fibers. Collagen increases water retention in the skin, tightens the epidermis, and smooths imperfections.

Other treatments with the VPL laser allow for:

  • Complete skin rejuvenation photorejuvenation
  • Closing unwanted vessels and “spider veins” on the legs and face
  • Removal of skin discolorations
  • Vessel coagulation
  • Acne treatment – the VPL laser supports treatment with antibiotics and retinoids

Epilation – Procedure Process

Epilation is preceded by a thorough medical consultation. For the best results in laser hair removal, the area to be treated with the VPL laser should be shaved using a razor; however, do not use depilators or other products that remove hair completely from the follicle.

Before starting the procedure, the aesthetic medicine doctor applies a cooling gel to the skin to ensure maximum comfort during the procedure. Additionally, between each light emission, the device cools the skin, reducing pain. The procedure should be repeated 4 to 6 times, as the laser can only effectively destroy hair along with its follicle in one of the three hair cycle phases – the anagen phase.

Epilation – Contraindications

Contraindications for VPL laser hair removal include:

  • Vitiligo
  • Pregnancy or breastfeeding
  • Infection at the epilation site
  • Prone to scarring
  • Use of aspirin a week before the procedure
  • Use of photosensitizing medications or herbs
