Labia Augmentation with Hyaluronic Acid in Wroclaw, Poland – Nowa Estetyka Medical Center

Augmentation, or enlargement of the labia, is an aesthetic gynecological procedure that allows for the shaping and rejuvenation of the intimate areas. Beyond its aesthetic effect, the procedure helps restore the natural function of the labia and provides proper protection of the vaginal entrance, eliminating the issue of recurrent infections. Restoring labia volume also prevents unpleasant irritations and chafing.

The therapy can involve both the larger and smaller labia. There are several methods for performing augmentation, one of the most popular and minimally invasive being hyaluronic acid filling.

The Role of Hyaluronic Acid in the Body

Hyaluronic acid naturally occurs in connective tissue and ensures proper hydration by retaining water, keeping the skin firm and tight. HA also stimulates fibroblasts to produce new collagen, which serves as a sort of structural framework for tissues. Unfortunately, as we age, the concentration of hyaluronic acid decreases. Tissues lose their basic building material, skin becomes loose and sags, and deficits and depressions appear on the skin’s surface—this issue also affects the intimate areas.

Labia Filling – Indications

Aging processes do not spare intimate areas—as we age, the skin in intimate regions loses firmness and density, becomes more flaccid, and succumbs to gravity. There may also be a loss of the subcutaneous fat layer (lipoatrophy), leading to a partial or complete disappearance of the larger labia. Such changes in the appearance of intimate areas often cause patients psychological discomfort, a decrease in self-esteem, and a reduced quality of sexual life. The loss of firmness in the skin of intimate areas is not only an aesthetic issue but also a physiological one. The loss of subcutaneous fat tissue results in a loss of volume in the larger labia. Exposing the entrance to the vaginal vestibule can lead to frequent irritations and infections of the lower urinary-genital tract. Other indications for using hyaluronic acid-based preparations include insufficient hydration and hypersensitivity of the vulva, itching, and vaginal dryness.

Too small larger labia, which do not provide adequate protection for internal tissues, can also affect young women and may be genetically determined. Women who have given birth naturally often experience similar problems.

Labia Enlargement with Hyaluronic Acid – Procedure

The procedure involves injecting the external genital area with hyaluronic acid using a cannula. The procedure is performed under local anesthesia, administered after disinfecting the injection sites. The volume of the product used is individually tailored by the doctor to the patient’s needs.

The procedure is painless. Afterward, there may be redness and slight swelling of the intimate areas, which is a natural reaction of the body to the injections. The procedure requires no special preparation from the patient, lasts about half an hour, and the patient can leave the office immediately after.

Labia Filling – Results of the Procedure

  • Rejuvenation of the external genitalia
  • Regeneration of the skin in the intimate areas
  • Correction of asymmetry in the larger labia
  • Reduction of recurrent urinary-genital infections
  • Increased comfort in intimate areas
  • Elimination of vaginal dryness

Is the Procedure Repeated?

The effects of the procedure last for 1-2 years. This is due to the slow breakdown of the applied hyaluronic acid. To maintain the effects, the procedure will need to be repeated.

Labia Filling – Contraindications

Contraindications for hyaluronic acid injections include inflammation and infections of the vulva, vagina, or skin in the intimate area, as well as genital herpes. These should be treated beforehand. The procedure is not performed on pregnant patients, those allergic to hyaluronic acid, or patients with cancer.
